| Building
Products Inc. of South Dakota was founded as Lumbermen's Supply
Company in 1944 by the Armin family, operating for many years in a warehouse in downtown Sioux
Falls. The company was purchased by Building Products Inc. in
1975, and in the spring of 1976,
construction began on its warehouse site at 2200 East Rice
Street. On December 5, 1985, the name was officially changed to Building
Products Inc. of South Dakota. With the consolidation of the
Watertown Branch in 1991, Building Products Inc. of
South Dakota assumed all of the sales territory previously serviced
by that distribution center. In March of 1992 the entire
facility moved to its present location at 1500 Industrial Ave North
in Sioux Falls. Today,
BPI of SD employs over 80 full time personnel, and has a delivery
program delivering both weekly and twice weekly with 16 semi-tractors pulling 48 ft. curtain vans.
Warehouse space has been expanded to 165,000 sq. ft. to accommodate
distribution from more than 120 manufacturers to over 700 retail
lumberyards.
